31st December 2015 Windsurfing: The Manor-Felixstowe Wind Direction: sw Wind Stength: 15/25 Surf / Sea State: big Air Temperature: 12 Sea Temperature: 9 Weather: sunny Max Speed: 28.40 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 10.80 (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise) HAPPY NEW YEAR :) Mag and I have got a six week job in a warehouse cheeking pallets :) so I have missed the wind this week :( but being New Years Eve we had finished work by 12:30 and after biking home I checked the Landguard weather station and the wind was sw 15/20, sunny too so I hitched up the trailer and headed down. The Fludgers was the best bet in this direction but the prom was very busy so no parking spaces, The Dip was next but as I feared it was a bit off there so headed to The Manor and parked at the Landguard car park. It didn’t seem very windy and a new sailor to me had just rigged 5.8 but he didn’t think that would be enough so I quickly rigged 8.5 and 147lt., after getting my suit on I quickly realised the wind had increased!!! I had one run with the big kit making24 kts but it was a handful especially in the very big sea approaching high water so I came ashore and rigged 6.5 on the 133. For awhile even this set up was a bit on the large side but I wasn’t rigging again!!! I had some fun trying to go broad in the big swells, I had ago at a mile but for some reason what I thought my best one peaking at 27kts didn’t register :( So not a bad way to end what has been my best ever year for windsurfing with 84 sessions, an hour in the mild sunshine :) ` So just a brief rundown of a record breaking year :) which as said above had 84 sessions not bad considering I didn’t go out at all in February and March and I actually went to work 93 days!!! Last year I only broke 30kts once but this year it was 13 times at six different venues, La Franqui,Southend,Le Crotoy,Gruissan,Point Clear and Levington:) The years highlights were :- 1 - Sailing with round Great Britain windsurfer Jono Dunnett. 2 - Getting an hour PB at Gruissan of 23.33kts. - top by a UK sailor this year :) 3 – Getting 36.81 kts. max at Point Clear – spot record until Whitey has a go!!! 4 – Getting 31.52 kts. max at Levington – spot record :) 5 – Getting 32.32 kts. In the surf at Le Crotoy - they say do something that scares you every day and I certainly did that day :) 6 – Finishing 4th in the world in the Legend (60+) group :) Kit used:- Boards Fanatic Mega Cat – 26 times F2 Xantos 295 – 34 F2 Xantos 310 – 15 Fanatic Cross 100 – 3 Fanatic 80 – 6 Fanatic Speed – 5 F2 Wave – 2 Sails Tushingham Lightning 9.4 – 22 times Tushingham Lightning 8.5 – 16 Tushingham Lightning 7.8 – 16 Tushingham Lightning 6.5 – 10 Tushingham X-15 7.0 – 11 Tushingham X-15 – 6.4 – 3 Tushingham X-15 5.8 – 7 Tushingham X-15 5.2 – 4 Naish – 5.6 – 2 Naish -4.7 – 0 Naish 4.2 – 0 That’s enough of my boring old year so just time to wish you all a Happy, Healthy and Windy New Year :) |
